Three Things I would Do if I Were Planning My Own Wedding Again

One: Focus on the Ceremony
I spent way too much time thinking about the reception, table settings, food and drinks, who would sit with who but without the ceremony, there is no reception! The ceremony is one of the most important elements of your wedding day, this is what will set the mood for the whole day, make this experience as unique as your love story.

Two: Trust Your Gut
Follow your gut and do your research when it comes to choosing your suppliers. I made a mistake with my photographer, it’s something I regret to this day, I knew he wasn’t quite the right fit for us but went along with it anyway. It’s important to align with suppliers that will not only provide exceptional customer service and products, but also support you along the way, looking out for you and your best interests. Heads up, if you are talking to someone who is stressing you out, not answering their phone, pressing you into something you are not sure you want or who just is totally not ‘getting you’… walk away. The planning process should be one you enjoy.

Three: Make Your Guests Comfortable
Our ceremony was on a small private beach on the banks of the River Dart, which was accessed via a steep meadow and a bank to climb down to reach the beach…you get my drift! It was stunningly beautiful, the perfect spot for us to celebrate our love of the water and the outdoors, but I must admit, it was a bit of a struggle for some of our guests, especially the walk back up after a few glasses of champagne!

If guests aren’t comfortable, they won’t be able to enjoy the celebration as you’ve intended them to. If there’s a chance of it being chilly, provide blankets, fans or parasols for shade if it’s going to be hot, make sure you have enough servers and bartenders to provide guests with drinks and always provide a comfortable lounge area so guests can sit back, relax, and mingle.
