Richard Branson’s Search For the UK’s Best New Food Businesses. Virgin StartUp Foodpreneur Fest 2014
Virgin Startup is a non-for-profit Virgin company for entrepreneurs. Virgin StartUp founder Richard Branson was on a mission to find the best new food businesses across the country and to celebrate entrepreneurial foodies getting into the kitchen and creating some really exciting stuff! A competition was launched and on 17th September 2014 the food judged by some of the most important people in the British food industry – including Richard Branson himself.
There were four categories the foodpreneurs could enter into – Most Exciting Brand, Tastiest Start-Up, Most-Loved Kids Food and Best Healthy Food Business.
Virginias Vintage Hire were ask to supply furniture for the judging ceremony at The Doodle Bar & TestBed1 in Battersea, both architecturally distressed spaces that provide such a great backdrop for our worn natural furniture.
A morning and early afternoon of workshops featuring food buyers and journalists was followed by a tasty lunch, then the all important judging ceremony. Competition winners chosen by the judging panel were as follows:
• Proper Beans: Premium baked bean range founded by Ben Mason, 33. Winner of ‘Most Exciting New Brand’ and ‘People’s Choice’ categories.
• Killer Tomato: Vegetarian street food start-up founded by Matt Paice, 41. Winner of ‘Tastiest Startup’ category.
• Sweetpea Pantry: Home baking start-up targeted at children founded by Philippa Askan, 39. Winner of ‘Most Loved Kid’s Food’ category.
• Sweet Virtues: ‘Superfood’ sweet truffles range founded by Carey Davis-Munro, 47. Winner of ‘Best Healthy Food Business’ category.
