Décor Trends for 2022. Timeless Design & Natural Materials
This is the time of year we like to start setting some goals and targets for the year ahead. As the winter begins, we start to think about having a clear out in the warehouses, thinking about what stock we need to say goodbye to and indulging in the best part of our job, choosing new stock.
I like to think that this time of year we have an idea of where we want to take the business, have a vision of what we’d like to accomplish in the year ahead, but honestly this year, it feels like the wind has gone from my sails.
In January 2020, just before the pandemic hit, we jumped into the New Year with gusto! We set ambitious sale targets, smashed January’s target, but by the end of February we were getting the feeling that something was stirring and the rest, well as they say, will go down in history.
As we entered January 2021, the theme was all about survival, no plans, no goals, just stay afloat by any means and make sure we were still here to service all our incredible clients who stuck by us and whom we promised we’d be there to help with their events in 2021.
Last year was a challenge, there is no doubt about that. Cramming a year and half’s worth of work into pretty much 4 months, mid-week events, blurred into the weekend events and I absolutely know we weren’t the only ones working our socks off. It was a year when strength and determination won the day and so many of our friends and colleagues who work in the events industry were knuckling down and nailing it! If you held a wedding, a party, a corporate event, a shindig of any kind in 2021, please know how much your business meant to your suppliers, many of us were running on fumes, but it was so good to be out working again.
So why not start 2022 with the same vigour as we entered 2020? This year feels different. There’s still some uncertainty in the air and planning the year ahead as we have done in the past doesn’t have the same appeal. I know we must push on, to look at trends, new furniture styles, listen to what the planners, stylists and the venues are asking for, but I am choosing to take it steady and not set big business goals right now.
There are no definitives on how to live a good life, but I do know that my desire for this year is for balance. Balance has been, missing for a while, it’s been a rollercoaster of a couple of years, and I can’t take that ride anymore. This year needs to start more gently, of course we are looking at new stock and looking at how we can improve but this year it feels more about a gentle knowing about what’s right for the business but also about what right for us rather than the pursuit of big business goals.
We are looking forward to embracing the year ahead with Virginias Vintage Hire and as the year began, I was pleased to see that Vogue predicts a 2022 trend for ‘Nature Inspired Surfaces and Objects’ a ‘Lure back to nature’ and the use of imperfect, natural and organic materials.
Country Living says, ‘Blue is the new black’ and set to be one of the most popular colours of the year, with ‘Very Peri’, a gorgeous hue of fresh blue being the Pantone colour of the year. House Beautiful say ‘2022 will see a further emphasis on sustainable materials, responsible manufacturing, and the reuse and resale of furniture and homeware’
The furniture and décor in our hire collections embraces a style of simple, understated character. Much of our stock includes original antique and vintage furniture, beautifully worn reclaimed wooden items, the use of vintage fabrics and other natural, sustainable materials, such as bamboo and cane. Our upholstered furniture collections contain large dose of blue in many shades, and so we feel well placed to furnish events in 2022 for clients who want to embrace the predicted interior trends.
This is pleasing to know, as it means we can roll gently into the year, quiet in the knowledge that we don’t have to completely overhaul what we currently offer. This doesn’t mean we won’t be introducing a few new stock items, and I’m pleased to say the best part of the job as mentioned above, has been indulged in and we will be introducing our new Souk collection.
Sourced from Morocco, these gorgeous handmade chairs and two seater sofas will be arriving for this Spring and as the year progresses, there will be more gorgeous items added to the collections in both English and Scottish branches.
