FRESH WINTER DINNER PARTY

As the last of the leaves have all but fallen and autumn colours disappeared under the veil of colder darker days, the approach of winter, of frosty mornings and of chilly nights, make us want to wrap up with soft layers, retreat to the glow of the fireside, to home comforts and the luxury of warmth.

When we chatted over our ideas for our winter shoot Katie our stylist felt she wanted to do something a little bit different; no obvious reds, bright golds, and greens of the festive season and to steer away from creating a photo shoot that alluded to standard traditions of a warm and cosy dining table atmosphere, and instead envisaged a fresh and crisp winter table setting. Working with icy blues, silvers, greys and pale gold and by incorporating our whitewashed trestle tables, our beautifully rustic Alphonse bar and a range of accessories, set against the cool stone backdrop and trails of dark green ivy she has created a gorgeously dramatic dark and icy contrast which we absolutely love.

Behind the scenes of our styled shoot

Katie started to put all her ideas together into a mood board and to build on her vision for pulling the look together and what the different elements would be. She sourced samples of table decor and furnishings and found the perfect location, Hutchinghayes luxury retreat, not far from our HQ in Devon and visited taking photos of various photo settings before presenting back to the team. Ideas developed further exploring colour tones, textures, props and which furniture hire pieces would be used.

Putting a styled shoot together requires planning, co-ordination, attention to detail, and bundles of energy, the days prior can seem like a whirlwind of to do’s and shopping trips for last minute additions to create just the right setting. (Even Boo the cat wants to get involved when he realizes he’s the same colour as the mood board). It’s certainly not all glamour, and there were some wet and muddy tips to the location and into the woods gathering branches, leaves and foliage for decoration. Back in the office there was at least 48 checks of the weather app every hour, and the wringing of hands in the scenario that there will be torrential downpours and 50mph gusts of wind. Luckily however fortune shone, and so did the sun on the day of the shoot and everything came together just perfectly, and with the help of the fabulously talented eye of Amber at Liberty Pearl Photography, gorgeous food by Milkshed Catering, and exquisitely delicate wreaths by Joanna at Viridis Flower Studio.
